Dag Valand
Chief Executive Officer & Founder
Dag A. Valand is the CEO, Co-founder, and Board Chairman of WaveTech. Dag co-founded WaveTech with physicist Ove T. Aanensen in 2003 and has since served as its CEO.
Dag’s responsibilities entail creating and identifying opportunities for increased operational performance, integrating breakthrough developments, and adopting industry foresights that keep WaveTech abreast of advancing technology innovations.
Dag has a background in the battery industry with over 25 years’ international experience facilitating technology applications across a range of energy and commercial sectors. Since the inception of WaveTech, his focus on its R&D operations and technology deployments has achieved industry flexibility and a strong foothold in both traditional and emerging markets.
Over the years, Dag’s business initiatives have attracted highly qualified talent to the team and have made WaveTech a notable name in the R&D community and global industry.
Prior to WaveTech, Dag established a former company, which addressed the issue of battery degradation, after jumpstarting his career as 49% owner of the family business, where he was instrumental to its rapid growth and successful sale.
Aasmund Erlandsen
Chief Operating Officer
Aasmund Erlandsen is the Chief Operating Officer of WaveTech. He was named COO in May of 2021, and oversees the company’s product development projects, production, sales and marketing, and global and business operations. Aasmund is a veteran of the energy sector with over 30 years’ experience as an executive, having served numerous global organizations that have shaped the industry through accelerated and competitive development.
In the past, Aasmund co-founded Fram Drilling, where he served as its COO and executed a market entry strategy that quickly aligned with the demands of a shifting marketplace.
Prior to this Aasmund served as COO of Sevan Drilling, where he set up the company’s operations center in the USA and prepared for the use of world-first technologies.
Aasmund was the Vice President of Operations Assurance at Transocean and served as its Managing Director in Norway for several years, lifting the company to become a center of excellence with the highest profitability. His former roles have granted him considerable international operational insights, with management positions in Europe, Africa, and the United States for companies that included Transocean, DNO, and Equinor.
Aasmund holds a Master’s degree in Management from the Norwegian School of Management (BI), and a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Stavanger in Norway.
Silas Poel
Chief Financial Officer
Silas Poel is the CFO of WaveTech and a serving board member at the company. He was named CFO in May of 2021, and is responsible for all of the company’s financial activities, including their planning, implementation, management, and operations.
Prior to being appointed as CFO, Silas served as WaveTech’s Chief Operating Officer from 2015, a period when the company saw considerable growth and innovative applications of technology.
Previous to his position as WaveTech’s COO, Silas was a Consultant for the company from 2013, utilizing his background in taxation, business administration, and international clean-tech to influence risk mitigation and grounded business decisions.
Before joining WaveTech, Silas founded an investment office, and also successfully managed investments in the cleantech area, through which he attained extensive commercial, operational, and leadership experience. In the past, Silas also worked as Executive Consultant for a Munich-based Family & Investment firm, and a consultant for a Swiss-based Private Equity fund as an Industry Expert.
Silas earned a Bachelor (CCI) in Accounting, and is a Certified IFRS accountant.
Dr. Boris Monahov
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Boris Monahov is the Chief Scientific Officer of WaveTech. He was appointed as CSO in 2018 to oversee and direct battery science research and technology development at the company’s Research and Development Center. Dr. Monahov brings 42 years’ experience to the team with an international career spanning battery science research, technology, manufacturing, and international R&D project management.
Dr. Monahov’s career encompasses several decades of battery scientific studies as Associate Professor alongside Prof. D. Pavlov at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, leading to contributions in the industry and overall advancement of battery technology.
Dr. Monahov is author or co-author of over ninety articles published in international battery journals, and served as a program manager of the Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium under management of the International Lead Association. As Chief Electrochemist of Firefly Energy Inc., he played a role in the development of lead-carbon foam batteries, which saw increased battery performance at reduced weight.
He also currently holds three battery technology patents and was awarded a Gaston Planté Medal for outstanding achievements in lead-acid battery research and technology. He is a member of the Alpha-Beta Society, the global club for prominent lead-acid battery researchers, with only a select few members in the world.
Dr. Monahov holds a degree in theoretical Solid-State Physics from the State University of Sofia, Bulgaria, with specialization in Physical Metal Science. He earned his PhD in Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Power Sources from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Matthew Fitzgerald
Chief Technology Officer
Matthew Fitzgerald is the Chief Technology Officer of WaveTech. He was named CTO in October of 2020, and has since led product commercialization spanning software and hardware development for the company. An industry authority on critical systems products, Matthew arrives with 36 years’ experience as an engineer and executive in development, manufacturing, and technical sales.
Before joining WaveTech, Matthew was the founder and operator of a consulting firm, which specialized in product development and manufacturing consulting services tailored to renewable energy systems, energy storage, critical power infrastructure, and medical markets. At the company, Matthew leveraged his vast engineering, operations, and sales experience to streamline companies’ entire value chain across various sectors, often to industry-breakthrough results.
Prior to founding his consulting firm, Matthew led several international and multidisciplinary teams in developing next-generation battery monitoring, battery management systems, remote site monitoring and automation architectures, and power conversion and distribution units as Director of Engineering at C&D Technologies and Rectifier Technologies Pacific, in the critical power systems market.
Matthew’s initial career saw him play sensitive engineering roles in the toxic gas detection and water quality monitoring industry, where electrochemical sensor technologies designed for life safety, environmental monitoring, and process control inspired his lifelong contributions to electrochemical energy storage monitoring techniques and product reliability.
Matthew studied Computer and Electrical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, along with Military Sciences, earning him a commission in the United States Army Reserves.
John Rood
Corporate & Board Secretary
John Rood is the Board Secretary of WaveTech, Corporate Secretary and Vice President. He was appointed in early 2021 after having served the company as a strategic business consultant since 2005.
John is responsible for ensuring corporate governance and regulatory compliance in capacity of strategic advisory, analysis, review, development, and execution of company resources while facilitating company leadership as a Board Secretary. He specializes in merger and acquisitions, valuation, intellectual property, financial and scientific analysis, and investor relations with the goal of aligning company interests within dynamic market, regulatory, and stakeholder environments.
Previous to being named as Board Secretary and Corporate Secretary, John served as a strategic business consultant for WaveTech and took initiative in the company’s development and growth through valuable insights into emerging industry trends and practices. His highly technical background and business experience as a member of WaveTech supports informed decisions and cohesive relations among board members, investors, and directors in the execution of fiduciary duties.
John acquired a B.A. from Evangel University, and studied physics and astronomy at Case Institute of Technology and the University of Arizona.
